How to Make Mosques Interesting

I feel so frustrated when I see the mosques of today, at least in my geographical region. The management committee, the scholars and the community themselves have made it more complicated and restricted that needed.

People are so robotic in mosques. They can't talk about anything there. If anyone does, they are scolded by saying "Don't talk about worldly things here!". I understand the reference. You this is being stretched too much. If we don't talk about worldly development, how will we develop? I have mosques where signs like these are posted: "Do not turn on the fans and lights without permission", "People without cap are not allowed in the mosque". How much more illogical and unwelcoming can we be?

I have even seen images online mentioning that so and so sect is not allowed. This is ludicrous!

And moreover, this is in stark contrast to the vision that the Prophet created. He never put such unnatural restrictions. In his time, mosques are community centres, counseling centres, courtroom and a social and cultural hub.

The extent of humanity is this. There is an incident during the Prophet's time, when a person from another community was urinating in or near the mosque. One of the companions of the Prophet became angry and wanted to stop him. But the Prophet told him let him finish.

This is common sense. And, to clarify, the mosques at that time used to be like kutcha house, not like today. So the person's actions need to be seen in that context.

Now, we have made Islam so narrow that only a very rigid set of things that fit into a person's sectarian view are considered Islam. This is quite sad.

I understand if a drunk person is restricted from entering the main area of the mosque, due to orderliness and hygiene issues. But aggression is not justified.

If a guy who has body covered only from the navel to the knee comes to the mosque to pray, people would go crazy! But, should they? Islamically, he did nothing wrong. He covered the area that needed to be covered. And he has complete right to be in the house of God (Meaning the house that belongs to God, not where God lives).

Wanna hear my vision?

A modern mosque. High speed WiFi. A place to rest. Counseling centre. Kitchen. Media and computer room. Using all these to create goodness for humanity. And to have halal fun.

Such a mosque would house homeless people, provide a place for travelers to rest, run coding classes, provide employment directories.
